Delhi Jal Board, led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, approved the proposal of 20 percent water rates on Tuesday. The state has also started. Mr. Jair Prakash, member of the Board of Water Board, who was present in the meeting said that Kejriwal was also present in the meeting and after his approval the Delhi Jal Board passed the increase in water rates.
However, Aam Aadmi Party leader Nagendra Sharma tweeted that free water has been continued for the people who are using free water i.e. up to 20,000 liters per month in the third year. He said that 20 percent increase in water and sewer charges has been approved for those who are using more than 20,000 liters of water.
Kejriwal's former colleague and now Aam Aadmi Party's rebel leader Kapil Mishra attacked Kejriwal again on the issue. Kapil Mishra tweeted: "The Delhi government decided to increase the price of water. Why such a decision suddenly? Did Arvind Kejriwal become the water minister soon after the Delhi Jal Board suddenly went into a deficit? They are cheating with the Delhi people. The price was not promising. Significantly, while Kejriwal was a minister in the government Kapil Mishra was the chairman of the Water Board.
Explain that according to the existing rate, the consumption of water from 20,000 liters to 30 thousand liters is to be charged at Rs 219.62 and volumetric charge for Rs 21.97 per 1,000 liters. While using more than 30 thousand liters of water in a month, the service charge is Rs 292.82 and volumetric charge is 36.61 per 1000 liters.
